Advisor

TiffanyTiffany Barnes is my PhD advisor. She is an Assistant Professor at UNCC and co-director of the Games and Learning Lab. In addition to our ITS and EDM research, Tiffany leads the Game2Learn group which is using computer games to teach computer science.

Collaborators and Colleagues

Marvin Marvin Croy is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at UNCC. He has been a great help in realizing my research goals. The data from his Deep Thought tutor for solving logic proofs has been an essential part of our ITS research.

Lorrie Lorrie Lehmann is a PhD student and Computer Science Instructor at UNCC. She has recently joined our ITS research team and has provided some significant help in my research (especially java programming!). She would like to apply our ITS generation techniques to a java programming tutor.

Ted Ted Carmichael is a PhD student in Computer Science at UNCC. His area of research is Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS). We have applied CAS techniques to the field of Predictive Data Insertion to approximate missing data in large datasets which is critical when analyzing large sets of student data using educational data mining techniques.

Noboru Noboru Matsuda is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. Noboru is helping me create a CTAT version of a logic proof tutor that will integrate with the SimStudent. We are investigating whether the simulated student can learn to solve logic proofs and what kind of production rules would be created. This work was begun during the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center's Summer School Workshop.

Ken Ken Koedinger is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and co-director of the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center.
